2 Fun Ways to Clarify Your Life Goals

If you are confused about what life goals you should pursue, try reframing the problem by asking different questions. The default is to ask, “What do I want?” or “What’s my goal?” But those questions don’t engage your imagination. You will get a boring list of goals, or you will over analyze your ideas and never decide, or worse…you will choose a goal that you should pursue. Yawn 🥱.

To get out of this rut, arouse your emotions and solicit your imagination for meaningful goals. Choose an area of life that you want to improve, and begin to wonder what’s possible. What do you wish for? What are you curious about? What looks interesting? What would be the hardest thing that you could do? If you were to live forever, what would you want?

Another favorite angle that I take when deciding on my wants or goals is to interview a fictional character that I admire and get their advice on what direction I should go in.

For instance, I’m watching The Rings of Power series on Amazon Prime. One of my favorite characters is Nori, who is closely related to a Hobbit. If I want to improve my work or creative life, and create new outcomes in those areas, I could simply ask her advice: “Nori, what would you go after? What do you find interesting? What do you wish for?”

If you’re looking for some interesting life goals, or something that spiced up life, get out of the mainstream and make some creative re-frames. Bring a child-like, wondrous attitude to your wants, desires, and goals. Ask enthralling questions or interview your favorite fictional character to engage your imagination.
